Top 8 Benefits of prepping even if TEOTWAWKI doesn’t come

To make this a comprehensive article, I would like to start off by explaining what TEOTWAWKI really means, an acronym for “The End of the World as We Know It”.  To tell the truth, being prepared is not that complicated because it just takes some willingness to do something about the situation.

If you have decided that you want to change your lifestyle now and start prepping, I would like to congratulate you. You have taken the first essential step towards an amazingly rewarding life for yourself and your family, and yet another towards the fruitful and healthful practice of raising your own food and becoming more self-sufficient.

By self-sufficient, I don’t even mean going off grid: you don’t have to bore a well and install solar power, though if you can, that’s awesome. What I am talking about is reducing your reliance on the grocery store, knowing what’s in your food, and all round just feeding your family more healthfully.

Teaching a child to provide for themselves is a lesson that advocates independence and responsibility. Hence, learning how to prepare in my opinion is a good subject to start with children.

It is said that if you are prepared, you will be ready to deal with life’s challenges be it large or trivial.

Every SHTF situation will be defined subjectively because there even may be countries that are going through what we define as SHTF situation be it economic downturn or facing the wrath of Mother Nature.

Prepping Saves Money

Contrary to popular believe, prepping actually helps you to save on some cash. The act of buying in bulk and avoiding things to go to waste will definitely be healthy for your financials.

Food storage actually saves money because you can buy items in a bulk and take advantage of your freezer. When you set aside to prepare for food, you will buy amount that will be enough for one year or more which is really big in terms of volume.

A more practical example would be that you can freeze fresh herbs and staples while using it when there is a need for it. Since inflation is always happening, buying a bulk of food now can save quite a lot of money because you are buying it now instead of buying it in the future.

Since the art of prepping require you to learn how to prepare your own meal, it would save a pretty penny because instead of eating out, you will prepare your own meals. This would be killing two birds with one stone as you can learn to perfect your cooking while saving cash.

Cultivate Critical Thinking

If a SHTF situation were to hit you today, what would you do? This very questions already instigated your thinking process which is essential for critical thinking. Preparedness, by its very nature is based on planning and how to take the fall when it comes.

Becoming and being preparedness-minded (a prepper) is a natural state of being for a responsible independent critical-thinking human being. I would recommend that your preparations have to be more than just physical tangible assets. They include sets of practical skills and a mind-set which bolsters your self-sufficiency and independence which greatly increases your survival rate.

Being prepared has become a way-of-life, which still fits into the current ‘modern’ system that we all live in today. We should utilize our preps and not just let them sit there to get rotten. While some of my preparedness inventory (long term foods) will sit for longer periods of time, much of it is used and rotated and integrated into daily life.

When I consider what to buy or what to do next regarding preparedness, I look at it from a practical standpoint such that it’s not a waste if SHTF never happens. As we keep on having a practical plan to live the best possible future, by balancing the act of protecting and propelling ourselves forward, we can live a life fulfilled much more easily.

Living Debt Free

With Greece being bankrupt and several countries living in poverty, it is clear that poverty is quite prevalent in our world. The only question is “what can we do to prepare for this?” To me, living a debt free life would be the greatest and most effective way to live a life that is safe from poverty, especiallyat least the kind that makes people pay debts for years.

It’s great to be prepared for an end of days’ scenario, but what happens when you’re faced with a foreclosure or the possibility of living on the streets because of unemployment. Is that not a survival situation?

To be truly prepared for the worst, we must also think of our financial security. That means paying off debt, living within your means, and starting an emergency fund. Preparing for a financial constraint is very relevant to our everyday life because you have to have enough funding for sending your kids to college or even making a home purchase.

Asking yourself whether are you prepared for retrenchment or do you have sufficient emergency savings before you land to a new job would be practical questions that you can ask yourself too.  Before getting into the debt loop, I would advise that you look into monetary matters seriously while avoiding high-interest debt and start prepping before it is too late.

Besides that, having a good credit score will allow you to purchase expensive items at a lower interest rate because you already prepped sufficient funds for survival. The funds can be capitalised when you feel that there is a need.

Free of emotional constraints

Fear and worry are the biggest two factors that contribute to emotional instability. Basically, your performance will suffer if your worries are not put to rest.

In my opinion, fear and worry comes up if you are not prepared yourself. Hence, by equipping yourself with knowledge and useful items such as the best bug out bag or a sustainable food storage, it would be great.

From time to time, we come across economic depressions and natural disasters. If such events were to happen in our space, being prepared will significantly build our confidence in surviving while cushioning ourselves from falling into emotional instability such as depression.

Knowing your strengths and weaknesses

Performing a SWOT (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats) Analysis is a great way to determine how prepared you really are. A SWOT Analysis is a simple, but useful method of pinpointing your Strengths and Weaknesses. Performing one will also help you identify Opportunities that you can exploit, and Threats that you might face a SHTF situation.

I would like to elaborate more on the SWOT analysis because this is an excellent method to understand your strengths and weaknesses while identifying the opportunities around you and the threats lurking behind. For the strengths, it is basically finding out the skills and stocks which you currently have which will be extremely beneficial for a survival scenario.

For the weaknesses, you have to be honest by stating the skills and things which you lack which helps you to survive or even improve the quality of your life. With this, you can further perfect your prepping regime or even routines of everyday life.

Finally, for the opportunities and threats, you have to think out what situations are likely to happen and how can you best prepare for it. This is taking your daily prepping routine to the next level by reassessing your efforts while improving the fine details one by one.

Being physically fit

No matter what survival situation you may ultimately find yourself in, there’s one thing that you’ll likely find; survival is going to be hell on your body. One of the best things you can do to ensure your survival, in just about any situation, is to make sure your body and your mind are trained and prepared to survive. That means motivating yourself to get off your butt and get in shape.

Hence, getting in shape is a really important criterion in terms of prepping. Since it would be necessary that you need to stay up for many hours without sleep or run from a someone threatening your existence, we have to get into shape physically now so that we can fare better in a SHTF situation.

Having Survival Intelligence

One could not deny that knowledge is power, while applied knowledge is even more powerful. Although TEOTWAWKI does not happen but disaster still occur from time to time.

In a survival situation, knowledge is going to be a critical factor in determining the outcome of your situation. The ability to be able to predict what will happen during an emergency is an important part of being prepared. Start gathering a list of trusted resources and information sources that can help you prepare for whatever the future has in store.

Being Mentally Fit

The act of preparing will require you to think ahead of the game like chess, you have to be few steps ahead of your opponent to survive!

Survival isn’t glamorous, and it’s nothing like what’s depicted on T.V. Survival shows. It is downright brutal, and will beat the hell out of you not only physically, but emotionally as well. Don’t overlook the importance of cultivating a mind-set that will allow you to face life’s greatest challenges.

Also, a great deal of maturity and guts is needed to bug out. Many preppers talk about the prospects of bugging out; but how many of them have the skills, or the strength to actually do it? It’s one thing to talk about bugging out; it’s another thing to carry your gear 10-15 miles a day in dangerous and unforgiving conditions.

Conclusion

These are 8 of the most significant benefits I can see from preparing for a TEOTWAWKI situation. To live a balanced life, we have to be sufficiently prepared but still be willing to take some risk for future undertakings.
